This is a real plasma light shaped like a star in miniature form.
Plasmas consist of freely moving charged particles formed when electrons are stripped from neutral atoms. They have unique properties, different from regular solids, liquids, or gases.
In this lamp, the electrical discharges create localized plasmas that we can see by the glow of the recombining atoms. Since we are 'good conductors to ground' from the plasma's point of view, the plasma discharge is drawn to your hand when it is near the lamp and will follow as you move around its globe. It's like having a small, controlled lightning storm in the palm of your hand. |
